What does the Bible say about human life regarding abortion? I will lay out for you seven facts that are explicit in scripture. The effects of infanticide are way more far reaching than people wish to admit.
Right off the bat disclaimer: If you are inclined to deny science and the fact that babies are babies inside the womb, you will not likely accept the Biblical instructions regarding infanticide. Therefore, you will not, likely, accept the words that I am about to share.
In many cultures, there has been a human sacrifice to please the gods. It was that way in ancient Canaan. It is that way now. I would think that almost everyone agrees that abortion IS a sacrifice, even if they believe that they are giving up a child (or piece of their own temple) to receive a greater benefit of blessing. To be fair, most mothers and fathers who go through this do not openly hate their baby. However, neither does a parent who offers up a baby for sacrifice in a ritual to any false pagan deity. That’s why it is called a sacrifice. It hurts. It hurts, it scars, it does not go away.
In one short (4 verses) passage, the Bible describes
- a just punishment for anyone who sacrifices their baby,
- how that is an offense to the Creator YHWH Himself,
- and how that effects a community and a nation.
If I may take a moment to suggest the false gods that an abortionist may be serving:
- Freedom, Liberty ( https://sounddoctrineministries.wordpress.com/2012/08/31/american-paganism-the-statue-of-liberty/ )
That list can go on.
When the Bible speaks of infanticide it is usually mentioned as a practice known as passing through fire to Molech (1 Kings 11:7). Some say that Molech represented various Canaanite false gods, while some say it refers to the practice itself. Leviticus 20:2-5 gives us a world of knowledge regarding the punishment and the effects of such barbaric treatment of our young.
“Moreover, you shall tell the children of Israel, ‘Anyone of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who live as foreigners in Israel, who gives any of his offspring to Molech; he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. 3 I also will set my face against that person, and will cut him off from among his people because he has given of his offspring to Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name. 4 If the people of the land all hide their eyes from that person, when he gives of his offspring to Molech, and don’t put him to death; 5 then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all who play the prostitute after him, to play the prostitute with Molech, from among their people.”
I think we all can agree that the real maker of life does not seek this kind of treatment for our babies. Here’s what He established as the punishments for killing babies:
- Death penalty
- Wrath – YHWH will set His face against that man (even though women are carrying a baby, the father is guilty as well). “make him feel God’s anger” – http://biblehub.com/leviticus/17-10.htm
- Exile – YHWH will cut him off from His people. “excommunication, to exclusion from the privileges of the chosen people” – http://biblehub.com/ezekiel/14-9.htm
What does abortion and child sacrifice do directly to our Creator?
- Defiles His sanctuary – “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;” – I Cor. 6:19
- Profanes His Holy Name
So are the dad and the mom the only ones at fault here? Perhaps you have never had an abortion. Here is where YHWH warns an entire land about this happening. We can all be accomplices if we ignore it and turn a blind eye. “If the people of the land all hide their eyes from that person,..”
- Wrath – He will set his face against that person and his family.
- Exile – they will be cut off from the blessings of YHWH’s family.
When’s the last time you sang along with “God Bless America?” Why? Sure, we desire that, but why would we seek His blessing without blessing Him? This little thing we do that defines our politics, that defines our culture. This medical control “procedure” that strips a tiny helpless body of her life, is an abomination, if we like to admit it or not. It is a killing that has been deemed as “legal” by our “supreme” court. I would say that the government of the people, etc. is under God’s wrath and does not receive the blessings of His people.
Here’s basically the deal: We can say that America is a nation with Christians, but, as long as we blaspheme YHWH’s sanctuary And His name, we are NOT a Christian nation.
We can answer this scripture personally and reject the pragmatic notion that the “right” of a woman’s power is above life, and the very author of life Himself. Even IF you believe that an unborn baby is a part of the mother’s body, you would have to object because the God of life disapproves it.
I realize that the death penalty is called for in the Bible. So do I advocate the stoning of an aborting mother and father? Nope. But the sentence remains as a standard of what we deserve. Let that be one more example of what the Messiah of everyone took for us on the death stake/cross. Without His grace and His atonement, we would walk about with this huge burden on us for many generations. This grace is offered to all, but given only to the faithful. A sinner (even a murderer) who has been redeemed by the blood of the sacrificed Lamb of God – Yeshua/Jesus receives an advocate instead of a stone throwing witness.
Don’t let anything make you avert your eyes from the saline fires of Molech burning in our country. Rescue the perishing, care for the dying. Jesus has grace on the sinner, but do you not think that He hears the cries of the little ones? He will not turn His favor on this land while the children are being slaughtered. Repent. Turn back to Him. Turn your face to the needy. Restore His pleasure on the land.
