Book Review – Louder Than Words

Louder Than Words – my review.

I have been on a trajectory for at least 52 books for 2017. I have not done a review in a while because some of the books simply have not been “blogworthy.” Some have been awesome illustrations of why I love books. However, I have been deep in a project launch that takes up a little bit of my review time.

Why have I missed a couple weeks on movie reviews? Because this summer has been the summer of yawns for film.

I jumped into the deep end with this one. I have to admit that I trudged through. I had just finished a book on the history of the English language. I figured that this was along those lines. I was wrong. It was not entertaining and was almost not interesting.

I wish I would have known I was essentially buying the authors scientific doctoral thesis. The cover, the title, and the intro make this book seem like it will be easily consumed like Cheez-its. Nope. Think of a lettuce wedge.

Not to be mean, but this was my jogging book (thanks audible.com) and, I kid you not, I almost fell asleep while running.

I am not bitter though. I picked a couple non-sour grapes. I believe I grappled to retrieve those few nuggets. To be fair, I am too ADD to listen to a travelogue of lab experiments. I see good reviews on Amazon, so I can say that the entire population is not like me.

I guess that’s all I need to say. It’s just that I realized that if I love books, I don’t have to love them all equally. I need to learn to love people more evenly, but if they have written a book, perhaps I can love the writer, but dislike the written.

NOTE: Here’s a tip for audible.com. The monthly charge is worth it if you listen to books and wish to get the latest book at a discount. However, you can downgrade to a lite membership which is free. Sign up for the deal of the day alert. You will receive a book announcement daily that highlights a $2.99 book (or less).
